Genera’s flagship proprietary technology, AmpaSand® beads, are utilized in our simple to use and high-throughput CE-IVD approved PapType® and RTIplex MDx tests.

Genera has 3 additional AmpaSand® bead based multiplexed tests currently in its development pipeline and we plan to expand our available MDx menu to > 10 high value MDx assays over the next few years.

PapType® HPV Assay

PapType is a highly competitive molecular diagnostic test for human papillomavirus (HPV), the viruses that cause 99.7% of cervical cancer in women and genital warts. The test utilizes our proprietary AmpaSand beads and simultaneous detects and genotypes the 14 high risk and 2 low risk HPV types.

AmpaSand Beads

AmpaSand® Beads

AmpaSand beads are silica microspheres that have been extensively modified, using Genera’s proprietary technology, to create identifiable clusters of beads which can be distinguished in a conventional flow cytometer (a standard piece of laboratory equipment). The beads act as a microscale platform upon which a variety of biochemical reactions can take place, such as the binding of markers for disease.

Solid Phase PCR

Solid Phase PCR

Genera’s Solid Phase PCR technology is a nested PCR containing AmpaSand beads to which the nested primers are immobilized. Flanking aqueous forward and fluorescently labeled reverse primers within the PCR act to initially enrich the target. As the PCR progresses, the fluorescently labeled reverse primer acts in concert with the immobilized nested primer to grow labeled PCR products on the bead surface. The resulting surface-bound labelled PCR products confer colour to the beads: the more labelled PCR product, the brighter the bead.

Q-Sand

Q-Sand

Q-Sand is potentially the most exciting of Genera’s platform technologies. Q-Sand is a versatile, ultra-sensitive optical detection system, capable of identifying extremely small quantities of unlabelled analyte in a sample, without the need for target or signal amplification. Q-Sand has the potential to be a disruptive technology in biological and possibly non-biological detection systems. For example, Q-Sand beads have the potential to revolutionize the diagnostics industry, from infectious diseases, through to pharmacogenetics, environmental screening and food testing.

Genera’s Solid Phase PCR technology is essentially a nested PCR containing AmpaSand beads with an immobilized internal primer. The liquid phase forward and fluorescently labeled reverse primers act as external primers. As the PCR progresses, the forward strand grows from the immobilized primer and the fluorescently labeled reverse primer becomes incorporated into the complementary strand. This strand gives the bead the color: the more complement, the brighter the bead.

Q-Sand

Q-Sand is potentially the most exciting of Genera’s platform technologies.
